The Spanish, way back in the 16th century, landed in the northern part of Taiwan. They built two forts in hopes of defending and strengthening their trade in the Philippines.

In Chinese, 土豆 (too-doh) can mean different things depending on where you are. In Taiwan, it refers to a peanut because of how it’s read in Taiwanese. But in parts of China, it refers to a potato!
